A prayer about Hurricane Katrina

Dear God, we thank you for life, we thank you for knowing you do not make mistakes, yet even in the midst of Katrina, we question, where was god and why the suffering, and maybe what you were showing us is that we have not taken the resources and the gifts you have given us and distributed them wisely and fairly. Maybe this can be used as a wake up call for those of us that have so much to remember those that have so little and yet they’re the underpinnings of this country. In the aftermath of Katrina, charge our batteries to fight for those that are less fortunate, black, white and latino, to remember that we will not be judged by how much we have, we’ll be judged by what we did for those who had little. Give us the strength to fight these mountains of insensitivity, these mountains of racism, these mountains of intolerance, and if you choose not to move the mountains, give us the strength to climb, and we’ll be careful to give your name the praise. Amen.
